Project Review Point
Question 1: Project Title
I am here
Question 2: Description / overview of your project (between 250 – 300 words)
Our group practice is centred on values of empathy, connection, belonging, inclusivity, empowerment, positivity, and creativity within a community of people identifying as women. The project is a digital and physical movement named “I Am Here”. It is about people identifying as women reclaiming our space, being heard, being seen, and affirming we matter in every context. The physical component consists of the creative act of rock painting, a modest deed with a significant meaning: making and leaving a positive mark on the landscape. The digital aspect spans across social media platforms. It will include images of the painted/marked/decorated rocks (Anonymity can be preserved by messaging admins who will post on creators’ behalf). It is defined by the hashtag #IAMHERE used across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Twitter. Part of the project is also to organise a creative workshop within an organisation working with people identifying as women. The organisations we identified provide support and care for vulnerable individuals and 1 of the reasons for pairing with them is to benefit from the necessary safeguarding infrastructure. The digital and physical campaigns offer the opportunity for participants to feel empowered through a small gesture and to experience a coming together and belonging through this creative act. Support we can provide via digital platforms through the inclusion of links to helpful websites/organisations. The workshop will be organised in participation with an external organisation which is already at the forefront of working with vulnerable women and has a safeguarding infrastructure in place. Women who are not part of the workshop can also mark their own stone (once they become aware of the campaign) and upload images on social media. It is not confined to any specific location, anyone can take part, making it inclusive.
Question 3: Brief overview of the event you are proposing as part of the above project?
Rock painting workshop, providing materials (need funding)
Organisations identified (charities working with vulnerable women mostly in Gloucester) – sending emails to the ones we know already hold creative workshops first, pre-workshop forms, follow-up telephone calls (see attached docs below)
Pilot workshop 1st with feedback from participants to help us improve for live event
Question 4: Will your event take place physically or virtually, or both? – Please give details. If you intent on holding an online event, please specify which online platform/s you intend to use, as well as how you might use your chosen platform/s creatively?
This is a movement comprising of a Physical event alongside a Digital campaign under the hashtag #IAMHERE
Question 5: When – (day/s and time/s) the event will take place?
We are in the process of establishing a date having made 1st contact, the email notifies the organisation of the date falling between the 1st and 12th of December.
Question 6: What form/s of promotion might be appropriate to the nature of your event? – Please generally discuss how you will approach promotion / dissemination.
Direct contact with the charity, no promotion for the workshop (due to anonymity), we will provide a poster for them to display on their premises ahead of the workshop to attract interest
Question 7: Who will you attempt to engage from a context exterior to the University of Gloucestershire? As indicated in the brief, this could be an organisation, business, community group, neighbourhood, research department, club, space, place, individual practitioner, etc.
See attached below
Question 8: How might you invite the above to contribute to your event in some way – As suggested in the brief, this could be as a guest speaker, participant, contributor, or as a host or site/space within which you hold your event, etc.
Host space and invite participants under their care.
Question 9: What audience, exterior to the University might you aim to engage? Remember – attracting the right audience is more important than the size of the audience.
N.B – If your event is some form of workshop with participants coming from outside of the University, it may not be appropriate to additionally involve an invited audience in your workshop. In this case, you should assume that your invited guests are both participants and audience (consider some form of feedback from your participants).
If the above applies to your project, then please use this question (9) to describe to explain / describe why you feel your invited guests are both participants and audience?
The audience for the event is the group of participants already under the care of the organisation. Alongside the physical participants (from the pilot and live event), we also have the digital audience that we aim to engage through the social media movement, as participators and audience.
Question 10: Could you describe what you want both your participants and audience to take away from the live event? What experience would you like / intent them to have?
How will you ensure those you invite are conformable, valued and engaged, etc…?
Sense of belonging and ideally empowerment through coming together and participating in a creative rock painting activity, reclaiming space with the physical dimension of a stone
Images! – In addition to the above, we would like you to submit up to 5 images which in some way relate to your project, and its intentions.
