Pilot Workshop Structure
Length: 90 mins
- 10 mins approximately for greeting participants, and a brief introduction of ourselves and the project.
- 15 mins settling in/icebreaker (if needed!)
- 20 mins of making together (making alongside people is preferred, it becomes more of a bringing together and shared experience and puts us on a level).
- Offering more refreshments/5 min break – away from making area for health and safety reasons.
- 20 mins making.
- 15 mins wind down, celebrating the results, thanking the participants, forms to be distributed (to be collected later if appropriate) Goodbyes etc.
- Clear down.
We suggest an agenda for the day
- Suggested duration 90 minutes.
- Refreshments offered.
- Short intro – who we are – boundaries of what we say established with you – avoid triggering subjects.
- Importance of anonymity, if photos are allowed, with consent, no person will ever be shown! only rocks and hands (with no identifiable marks)
- Explain the activity and show examples, introduce feedback form which could be completed at the end of relevant/appropriate/useful
- Show and talk through the resources we have brought.
- Have a creative warm-up exercise – to be defined. what can this be? have a creative warm-up exercise – to be defined. Picture charades, as per the pilot, using children’s flashcards.
- Start the activity.
- Assist if asked to
- Make our own rock if appropriate make our own rock and be part of the workshop.
- General chat, keep it kind, and positive.
- Photos of rocks (if too sticky around consent, air on side of caution! no photos)
- Be aware of comfort levels, and any potential discomfort or triggers, refer to the safeguarding person present if necessary.
- Keep an eye on the time.
- Give a reminder of the activity coming to an end 5 minutes before.
- End of the activity.
- Handling of wet stones, left at Nelson Trust as an option.
- Allow 2 minutes for feedback forms if anyone wishes to complete them leave them with Nelson Trust.
- Participants are thanked and greeted as they leave.
- They can keep their rocks.
- We tidy up.
- We thank and greet hosts.
- WE ROCK!
Nelson Workshop Agenda
(Times to be added once we know the start time)
We need:
- 4 or 5 Small Boxes (For Sharpies, POSCA Pens, Brushes, and Paints).
- Large box needs sorting and supplies putting into the small box.
- Kitchen Roll.
- Wet Wipes.
- Scissors.
- Snacks including gluten-free and vegan snacks (I will ask about allergies in case of severe reactions/peanuts etc).
- Transport.
- Car loading!
- Handout – (Sammi is this with hashtag and social media account IDs? > *Sammi* Yes).
- Email Jack/Bryony for a supporting letter for Uni for the Nelson Trust.
- Finalise the time! Nelson Trust hasn’t stated the time of the workshop yet!
Pre-Workshop:
- All aim to arrive 9:45 am meet Sammi outside & load resources.
- All Meet Karina at 10am – bring Student ID cards & letter from Jack – Glos Uni
- Start at 10:30
- Greet staff/thank/introduce.
- Set up – suggest around tables pushed together – everything within reach to everyone else.
Once Participants arrive/Workshop Start:

- 20 mins of making together (making alongside people is preferred, it becomes more of a bringing together and shared experience, and also puts us on a level).
- Offering more refreshments/5 min break – (eating away from making area for health and safety reasons).
- 20 mins making.
- 15 mins wind down, celebrating the results, thanking the participants, forms to be distributed *if we feel appropriate* Goodbyes etc.
- 5 minutes before it ends, let participants know.
After Workshop Ends:
- Clear down.
- Thank the staff.
- Follow up with a thank you email within the next 48 hours.
