Inspiration
Vivian Maier
The photographer behind this black and white image is of Vivian Maier. It depicts what could be deemed as a self-portrait of her taken on a walkway outside a large building with a window. The window itself has been used by Maier to frame the photograph. Her focus was not on herself as the viewer may think but on two women inside that particular building who are clearly in focus and prominent. She has used the light available to her at the time, It is as if she is considering how she would like her personal life to be and where she wants to get to in life, with her children
Vivian Maier captures a black and white image of her surroundings, which appears to be taken from her apartment window. Maier’s focus point seems unclear when capturing this shot, although there is a road with vehicles travelling somewhere on the left side of the image. It would seem it has been shot on a bright sunny day due to the prominent shadowing contained in this image. I feel the shadowing contributes to the photograph, and the question is whether Mahier is in silhouette on the right side of the image. The foreground is much darker in comparison to the central portion and that of the skyline.
